Benwisken known as "The Breaking Wave" due to its unique profile as seen from the townland of Ballintrillick.
It lies just north of Benbulben and is sometimes climbed in error by those wishing to climb Benbulben.
We will hike up the western slopes from Lukes's Bridge. At the summit the views are breathtaking while standing on the "top of the wave". The hike will then follow along the escarpment high above the Gleniff Horseshoe valley passing the memorial cross in memory of two members of the Noble Six shot dead during the Irish civil war.
On reaching the high cliffs of Annacoona where the famous Diarmuid and Grainne cave lies we catch sight of the remains of Barytes mining which was carried out here in the late 1800's
We then make our descent back down to Luke's Bridge.
Meet at Drumcliff Church large car park at 9:30am. We will then drive a short distance to the starting point at Lukes Bridge.
The hike will take 4 to 5 hours to complete at a gentle pace.
